I’m going to let you in on a little secret … I am NOT a morning person. This might come as a surprise to some, since my job has me up and at ’em before the sun rises, but hearing that alarm clock go off is probably the worst part of my day! But, since I don’t really have much of a choice but to get out of bed and get going, I’ve come up with a few tips that help make facing the day a bit easier.
Keep breakfast simple
I’m a total believer that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But choosing a quick but smart breakfast at O’dark thirty can be hard. My brain is still in a sleepy haze, so pouring a bowl of the girls’ sugary cereal is too easy. And on the days that I’m actually awake enough to make good decisions, like have a smoothie, I can’t because what mom is crazy enough to run a blender right outside her kids’ bedrooms at 4 a.m.? Thank goodness for Fruitlove spoonable smoothies!
Fruitlove gives you the benefit of a smoothie with the convenience of yogurt. And they each come with an adorable green spoon that allows for convenient, on-the-go snacking. So even if you’re in a rush to head out the door, you can just grab one and go!
Fruitlove comes in 5 delicious flavors, but my personal favorite is the Strawberry Banana Twirl flavor. Think of this classic smoothie flavor combo but with an added twirl: rhubarb and carrots! They blend strawberries, bananas, raspberries, rhubarb, and carrots with Greek yogurt for a thick and creamy smoothie that’s so delicious, you’ll want to spoon right in! Strawberry Banana Twirl is packed with five real fruits and veggies; is a good source of protein and calcium; and is an excellent source of vitamins A, B1, and B3. Is your mouth watering yet? Shower at night
The number one thing I do at night to save myself time in the morning is take a shower before bed. Think about it, how long does it take you to shower, dry your hair, etc. in the morning? By showering at night, you can take that time you would have spent doing those things and get a few more minutes of shut-eye or some extra time to relax and enjoy your breakfast in peace. Showering at night also affects your circadian rhythm—in good way! Sleep experts say that showering at night changes your body temperature in a way that may help you get to sleep faster and more easily. I know I feel more relaxed and sleepy after a nice warm shower.
Lay your clothes out
Another thing I always do is lay my clothes out the night before. What to wear is the first decision I have to make after waking up . . . and before coffee, too! Like I’ve mentioned before, my a.m. decision making skills are not the greatest, so every night before bed, I decide what I’m going to wear the next day. Then, I pull out all parts of my outfit (including socks and shoes) and put them together in a pile in my closet, so after I drag myself out of bed, all I have to do is throw them on. It makes my morning so much easier when I don’t have to decide what I’m going to wear or try and track down all the pieces of my outfit.
Set your alarm earlier
I know this one sounds a little crazy, but setting my alarm clock earlier than I need to really helps improve my morning. This works two ways: First, I know myself and I know that I can’t just roll out of bed the second the alarm clock goes off. I hit snooze at least twice every morning. So, knowing that about myself, I set my alarm clock for earlier so that I have time to hit snooze and still have plenty of time to get ready when I do get up. Having to rush to get out the door is the fastest way to ruin my morning and put me in a funk for the rest of the day.
The second benefit of an early alarm is that I make sure to give myself time to enjoy my breakfast. I love getting to sit down for a few minutes and enjoy my coffee and my Fruitlove smoothie. The time I get to spend sitting quietly while scrolling my phone or reading a book does wonders to boost my mood for the day.
Pre-pack your lunch
Just like with breakfast, I just cannot make smart food decisions first thing in the morning. It’s too easy to just throw my hands up and decide to hit up some fast food for lunch. That’s why I make it a point to pack my lunch the night before. It’s not only easier to make good food choices, but it also saves me time in the morning. All I have to do is grab my bag out of the fridge and go! I cannot tell you how much of a difference this makes in my morning routine. If I forget to pre-pack my lunch, getting out of the house goes significantly less smoothly.
And I’m loving adding Fruitlove smoothies to my lunch, too! They’re not just perfect for breakfast; they’re perfect for any time of day. With an energizing combination of three or more REAL fruits and veggies, Fruitlove not only tastes delicious, it’s the perfect way to satisfy your hunger while giving your body the nutrients it craves. Now that’s a great way to have your best morning—and best day—every day!
