Baby Swing Makeover

I’m a lucky girl.

I have great friends and family. As soon as I announced that I was pregnant, the hand-me-downs began flooding in! One of the things I got from a friend was a baby swing. It works great and Emma loves to nap in it but I was never too fond of how it looked. I really don’t understand why so many baby items need to look like a crayon box exploded all over them! I understand that bright colors help stimulate babies and all that, but why does the mats/cushions/seat covers have to be so “colorful”?? Babies can’t see those! They’re laying on them! Why can’t baby stuff actually go with the decor of the home?

Here’s what we had:

Rainforest! Lots of bright greens and blues and orange. Oh yay!

Even the dial got in on the color clashing action.

And the mobile? Only that red frog actually went with the swing. The other two were little tinkle toys randomly tossed on.

So after a couple months of staring at the bright atrocity in my living room, I decided to pull out the fabric and the spray paint and give this puppy a makeover!

So much better!! Nice and simple, gray and white. ::relieved sigh::

I added a nice and soft white furry fabric to the middle and headrest. A comfy place for Little Miss to lay her head.

I even tackled the dial! I couldn’t get rid of the blue part because it has all the diagrams for what knob/lever does what, but even just painting the knobs makes it look so much better!

And, of course, I had to make a pretty mobile for Emma to look at.

White puffy clouds move up and down as pretty (and bright – baby stimulation, remember?) hot air balloons circle around. I even made a little sun and used a tiny, clear Command hook to hook it in the center of the mobile.

Emma loves to stare at her pretty balloons! 🙂

The swing looks soooo much better! Now it’s not such an eyesore sitting in our living room. What do you think? Which swing would you rather have?

And, because she’s so darn cute, one last smiling, swinging baby picture.

What products did you use? Did you use a patteren for the seat? Please help! I have the exact same swing. Lol It worked for my first two, but I’m over it. I don’t want to buy something new though!
